Full Moon In Aquarius – The Circle Without The Dot

Writer's picture: Zoe CassellZoe Cassell

On August 12th, 2022 we have a Full Moon in Aquarius.

When we have a Full Moon in Aquarius, the Moon is in Aquarius, and the Sun is in Leo.

The Sun’s – Leo’s ruling planet – symbol is the circle with a dot in the middle. The dot inside the circle is our Identity, what makes us different from others. This is what Leo energy is all about – being special.

What about Aquarius? Aquarius is the circle without a dot.

Imagine being part of a circle. The circle is the safe space where everyone is included. No one is “more special” than another.

Now imagine you are part of this safe circle and you step inside the circle. This is the healthy Leo energy. Your like minded group has your back. In the safety of the circle, you can express your Self. You can be your Self.

We need this safe Aquarius space to be ourselves. We can’t be ourselves, express ourselves creatively if we feel unsafe, if we don’t belong, if we are not part of a community. We need to be part of a group that ‘has our back’. That’s why Leo needs Aquarius.

Of course, Aquarius needs Leo too. The circle without the dot is just a circle. A space of infinite creativity, of infinite potential – but a space where nothing happens. At some point, when the time is right, we need to take the lead and step inside the circle.

How can we find that safe space where we are free to be ourselves?

Full Moon In Aquarius – The Aspects

The Full Moon is at 19° Aquarius and it aspects both its rulers: it is conjunct Saturn (the traditional ruler) at 22° Aquarius and it is square Uranus (the modern ruler) at 18° Taurus.

So the Full Moon rulers are at odds with each other.

The Full Moon in Aquarius shines a light on the conflict between Saturn and Uranus. There is a part of us that seeks structure, and there is another part of us that seeks freedom.

There is a part of us that needs predictability, and a part of us that needs unpredictability. A part of us needs a safety net, and another part that needs the excitement of not knowing what’s next.

And the conflict between these 2 parts not only reveals very important things about ourselves, and about our deeper motivations – but can also help us find more authentic ways to live our lives.

The question the Full Moon in Aquarius raises is “Can I live a life where I can feel safe and free at the same time?”.

Yesterday I saw a huge blue bird flying around the seashore. I really had to pinch myself – I’ve never seen such a bird of such a size and such a bright color in my life.

I left home to take a closer look and as I got closer I realized it was a parrot – a blue-and-gold macaw.

These parrots are 30 to 36 inches (75 to 90 cm) long and live up to 60-70 years.

The parrot flew around for a half an hour or so, and then returned, landing on his owner’s arm.

The parrot was definitely happy – not the regular caged bird. He was taken out regularly to enjoy the free open space. And this made me think of the Full Moon in Aquarius conjunct Saturn and square Uranus.

How do we reconcile our need for structure and certainty, with our need for freedom and unpredictability?

The parrot seemed to have the best of the 2 worlds.

We too can have the best of the 2 worlds. When we go for a rollercoaster ride we fasten our seatbelt. We enjoy the thrill of the ride because we know our seatbelt is fastened.

Once we figure out the Saturn side of the equation, Uranus’ freedom follows, not the other way around. We can’t be free unless we master Saturn first.

Paradoxically, freedom is the result of living a long time not being free, making compromises, and delaying gratification. Authenticity comes after we learn how to fit in and play by the rules. Breakthrough comes when we’re busy working on becoming the best possible version of ourselves.

The Full Moon in Aquarius conjunct Saturn comes with the promise that Aquarius’ freedom and liberation is indeed possible – if we do what’s right, don’t take shortcuts and stay committed to the path.
